White Horse Inn and Close, Edinburgh

Very similar to an engraving published in "Old and New Edinburgh" published in 1890.

Here is a photo of the same area and an excerpt from www.edinburgh-royalmile.com/closes/close-whitehorse.html

This was the site of the Royal Mews in the 16th centruy, and was later known as Davidson's Close and Laurence Ord's Close.  It was named the White Horse Close when Ord rebuilt the existing tenement and named it in honour of Queen Mary's white palfrey.
